29th February

Last friday Me and my partner Harry visited Holywells park to begin recording for our trailer. We got some good shots but also some bad shots, this has helped us realise what we don't want to happen and what we would like to add into our trailer.

Today on the 29th February Me and Harry went to my house to get the beginning shots for our trailer. Harry recorded me leaving my house (sneaking out) i then recorded harry walking down the road on the phone to his mum, this is how we create our tag line 'What can go wrong?' We then went to Landseer park gates and recorded Me and Harry meeting and having a conversation and walking into the park together. So far we have got the beginning of our trailer and will begin recording the main scenes this saturday at Orwell Country park.

Viewing the options!

Two weeks ago me and my partner Harry went to Orwell country park to get some still images of where we would like to have the main scenes of our trailer created. We took some still images and tester recordings of what we would like to happen. These are a few of the images that we got.

Creating the scene!

Today we are going out into the forest, to try and record and take still images of where we would like our horror trailer to be held. hopefully we shall come back with more ideas and some still images to upload.

Rough Shots

On Wednesday the 8th of February Me and my media partner (Harry) wet out of the school premises, and went along to the park. This is so we could play about with the camera and see what kind of shots we would like to use in the trailer.

Once we had some videos, we returned to school and uploaded the short clips onto the computer. The short video clips where of me and my media partner running. We created these clips by hand holding the camera to get a rough shot. We then tried to begin the opening sequence for our horror trailer.

Planning & Story Boards

Finally we created out story bored for out horror trailer. We created some drawings of what we wanted to happen in that particular shot, what camera angle's we would like and how long we think the shot would take. This was done to help us to plan and guide us through our trailer.

Horror Trailers

Last week we also watched some Horror film trailers. These Horror trailers included:

  • House, 1, 2 and 3
  • Nightmare on Elm Street
  • The inn Keepers
  • Grave encounters
  • Saw 1, and 6
This was to help us think of ideas and setting for us to begin filming our trailers. This helped a lot because it gave me a lot of ideas for the Horror trailer which me and my partner wanted to create.

AS Horror Trailers

Last week we watched some past horror trailers from other AS Media Students. We looked at the camera angles, there setting and what we thought of the overall film trailer. We then had a class discussion about it.

Slumdog Millionaire deconstruction task (not completed)

Deconstruction of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’

Task 1: The UK trailer

1. How do the creators try to appeal to an audience?

The creators try to appeal to the audience by showing what India is really like when living in the slums. It shows deep into the roots of India. Therefore it gives people the true culture and atmosphere of what people in the slums live like. They also want to appeal to an audience by showing what happens in an every day life of a child who lives in the slums. The creators also show the bright vibrant colours amongst the dark and dingy slums. This shows that people in the slums still dress vibrantly therefore still showing the true colours of India. The creators also appeal to the audience by showing young children living in the slums still showing them having fun and playing with their friends. You also see throughout the trailer how much the young children depend on each other and have each other’s back. Showing a good sense of friendship.

2. What is the target audience for this film?

I believe that the target audience for this film is aged at teenagers of the age of 17 and up. This is because when seeing the trailer you see a young cast, so therefore teenagers will relate to the film just as easy as an older more mature audience would relate to it. However I believe that when watching Slumdog Millionaire you have to be in the right mood and frame of mind to get the whole story of the film. This is because you have to keep focused throughout the film to get the whole story. So therefore a younger audience would not be able to keep their focus for such a long film and would lose interest. I also believe that it is aimed at an older audience because of the language that is used. Throughout the film you see and hear a lot of rude words being said, so therefore a younger audience would not be suitable to watch the film.

Themes used within the trailer:

Love – Throughout the trailer you see the theme of ‘Love’ come into it. This is because we see Jamal (the main character) fall madly in love with Latika as a child and throughout the film you see him in a desperate bid to find her. This particular film would be aimed at a more mature audience who will appreciate this particular love theme within the film.

Brotherhood – Throughout the trailer we also see elements of the theme ‘Brotherhood’ this is because we see Salim take control and look after Jamal as little children. He made sure he had his back and looked out for him. This theme would be aimed at a younger audience. I believe this because a younger generation knows how to look after their friends and make sure that they are ok, just like Salim with his younger brother Jamal in the film.

Slumdog millionaire attracts a global audience by showing real events what is happening in the world right now.
